Basic Biography of joseph stalin
Joseph Stalin, who was, like Leon Trotsky, an influential political figure in Soviet Russia back in the Russian Revolutions who believed in Marxism (Sparknotes, n.d.). He worked as a more controlling person than Trotsky though, but he did try and benefit the Soviet Union in some ways. He had been arrested an exiled six times for organizing protests before his rise to power, and every time he escaped (Sparknotes, n.d.). After he banished Trotsky, he gained complete power and had tried to industrialize Soviet Russia in order to improve it (BBC History, 2013). Despite the benefits that would bring, Stalin had wanted to get the best out of the people, not to benefit them. When WWII came, Stalin first signed a peace treaty with Hitler, but after Hitler broke the treaty and struck, Stalin retaliated and destroyed Hitler's forces. Therefore the Soviet Union became the dominant power of Europe (Sparknotes, n.d.).
Joseph Stalin = Napoleon?
1. Stalin began to promote industrialization in the Soviet Union, encouraging people to work. He used a Five-Year Plan (1927-1932) and based on the beliefs of Marxism, the government controlled the economy.
2. When WWII arose, Stalin signed a peace treaty (Nazi-Soviet Pact) with Hitler in 1939. Two years later the Nazi's broke the treaty and invaded Soviet Russia. The Red Army then retaliated and defeated Hitler's forces, driving out the Germans. |
a) Napoleon began plans to set all the animals to labor to produce more, he had commanded a windmill to be built. The pigs also had control of all the harvests and distributions of food and had control over money.
b) When Napoleon came to power, he dealt with Mr. Frederick by selling him the timber. Instead, Mr. Frederick not only gave Napoleon fake bank notes, but he also tried to attack soon after. In the end, the animals still drove the humans out. |
Joseph Stalin is represented as Napoleon in the book animal farm, there are many links between the two that we can tell from the actions and personalities in the story. Stalin and Napoleon had both tried to industrialize the places in their rule, but they both did not consider the workers, they only cared about the benefits it would bring, they both also had control of all the produce. Then they both trusted the wrong person, Stalin trusted Hitler, Napoleon trusted Mr. Frederick. This turned out to have Hitler and Frederick invading Stalin and Napoleon's territories, but despite their efforts, Hitler and Frederick were driven out (P.68).
George orwell's effect
There is a definite message in the name Napoleon, Orwell chose the name to link back to Napoleon I, who participated in the French Revolution. After the revolution though, Napoleon I gained power and ran things himself, turning France back into a monarchy where he was in control. This represents how Napoleon in Animal Farm had participated in the revolution, but then slowly transformed the farm back into the way it was when Mr. Jones was here, but under his rule. Orwell used this name to show his disagreement how Stalin ruled Russia, it was exactly the same thing that happened for both Napoleons, he's using the links to show that Stalin was as lazy as a pig that lived off the labors of others.
